Simple Steps You Can Take To Spot Time Trial Bicycles

If you're into bike racing, you probably would have heard of time trial bicycles. These bicycles are specially designed to endure high speed bike racing on roads. Contestants either participate individually, or in teams. Like its name sake, trial races are a high adrenaline sport that pitches the cyclist's physical endurance against the test of time.

Time Trial Bicycles vs. Road Bicycles

However, these bicycles are not to be confused with road bicycles even though one might not be able to the tell the differences between these two bike models at one glance. These races are fast paced, and that means that cyclists need a trial bike to run at high gears in order to accelerate their cycling speed. The rims of the bicycle are also designed to be deeper to better its aerodynamic abilities. To then further improve its aerodynamic abilities, the frame of the bicycles are usually made up of tubing shaped like airfoil as well.

The races are conducted on flat areas, so you can discard worrying about the weight or handling of the bike when you make your selection from the many variants of time trial bicycles. However, if you do expect to ride on aero bars, do note that the top tube of the bicycle should be a few centimetres shorter than the lower tube to provide the correct amount of stem length.

Time Trial Bicycles vs. Triathlon Bicycles

These bicycles are also commonly confused with triathlon bicycles which are also commonly used for bike racing, albeit in marathon format. It is now harder to define the differences between time trial bicycles and triathlon bicycles also because bicycle manufacturers have now come up with triathlon bicycles that have the option of being re-adjusted into bicycles fit for these races. However, triathlon bicycles tend to have a steeper seat tube angle in order to provide the rider with a much more ergonomically comfortable cycling position.
